In the absence of postcodes or advance posting address system, it is very possible for more than 1 street to have the same name but located in different sections of Lagos. How does MapNTl.com know which one I am interested in?

 

MapNTL.com has a powerful search engine that searches through all the 450,000 streets and then lists every single instance of the street you just searched for. It differentiates the streets by including the area where each instance was found.  Simply click on the "Select your search" to see a drop down list of possible results. Once you have selected the right option, then click on the "Show on map" button to see the map of the street you just searched for.

Search Tips

It is advised that you leave out the "St" or "Street" prefix following a street name. This could potentially affect the result of your search. Rather than entering "Adeola Odeku St", or "Adeola Odeku street" simply enter "Adeola Odeku"  MapNTL.com will supply the rest.

 

The most accurate way to search for a street is to complete as many fields as possible. However, if the place you are entering is not found in our database, you may be able to find it expediently by using a partial name. In this context ithe partial street name followed by a space and this will search the database to help you find what you are looking for.

For example: if you are looking for "Oba Akinjobi Street"  but are unsure how to spell it you can enter part of the street name, i.e., "Oba"   This will produce a list of all streets in MapNTL.com's database starting with "Oba", and you can then select the required one from the drop down list.

How do I zoom in to see more the street names or Pan to move the map around?

 

1. If you are on MapNTL.com's home page and you wish to simply browser the map, then click on the button just above the map window and drag a box around the area you wish to zoom in, or simply click on the general area you wish to zoom in. You might need to click several times on the map or drag a box a number of times before the street names appear.

2. If you just searched for a street or a business location and you wish to zoom in or move the map around, then look below the map window and click on the "Zoom In " radio button to zoom in.

 

 To Pan or move the map around from the Homepage, simply click on button found on top of the map window  then click the map in the direction you wish to re-centre the map.

or select the "Re-centre" radio button in the searched street or business map window to move the map around. The map will move re-centring on the point where you just clicked

 

Select any of these tools and repeatedly click anywhere on the map until the street names or business logos appear or the map moves in the direction you wish to re-centre it.

Why is a street name incorrect?

Mapping Lagos is not an easy task, street names do change at an alarming rate. For instance, Kingsway Rd in Ikoyi had been changed to Alfred Rilwan Rd, etc. It is therefore possible that some of the streets on MapNTL.com are wrongly labelled or spelt. If you noticed any wrong street name, please send us an email. Our Map provider will need to correct these in their database.

Hey I saw the street I was looking for on the map, but how do I email a link to the map to my customers and friends?

 

After generating the map of your choice, look for the envelop sign and click on it. It will prompt you for your email address, your name as well as your friend's name and his/her email address. You can even include a personal  message to your friend. Your friend will get the mail as well as a link to the map you just generated. Business owners can send this email to their customers to help them find the location of their offices and shops.

How do I search for a particular business in Lagos?

I saw the business location, but how do I get more information about the business, e.g address, contact details, etc?

Most businesses have localised information, for instance banks have information that are only relevant to some specific branches, e.g. what branch of UBA offers Saturday banking? What specific Tantalizers outlet serves Africana? etc. Is there any contact phone number or email for map users to call the business, make enquiries and purchase goods?

MapNTL.com provides localised information for some businesses listed in its database. How can you access this information?

 

Look for the   button above the map window on the Homepage and click on it to select it

Or select the "Identify"  radio button below the map window in the street or business search map window

 .

 

 

Then click at the centre of the required business symbol or logo on the map. This will open the Local Information window somewhere beside the map window and display local information about the business.

 

If after clicking on the business symbol it returns an error, this could mean that you did not click directly at the centre of the business symbol. Select the "Go Back" button on your internet browser and try clicking again at the centre of the business symbol

I can't see the Business name, am I doing something wrong?

Well, the business and street names are set to appear at a particular zoom level. Unless you zoom in to get to this level, the business symbols and street names will not appear. Try and zoom in repeatedly. Continue to click on the map after selecting the "Zoom In" interactive button or radio button until the street names and businesses appear.

How do I Generate a Route to the Location of a Business?

Here is a Scenario:

You are on Ilupeju Bye-Pass (Ilupeju) and you wish to generate a route to UBA branch in Ogba to transact a business. Follow these step-by-step instructions:

2. In the "Source Address" box, enter "Ilupeju Bye Pass" (do not bother with the "street" suffix)  Tip: you may decide to enter only "Ilupeju" and MapNTL.com's powerful search  engine that will return all streets that have Ilupeju as part of its name

3. In the "Area" input box, enter "Ilupeju" to refine the search

4. Then enter "UBA" in the "Destination Address"

6. Select the "Route Type either "Fastest Route" or "Quickest Route", then and the Distance unit either "Kilometer" or "Miles"

7. Then click on "Go"

The map data itself including the road names and placement of the roads, rivers, and landuse is supplied to us by Spatial Technologies Ltd who also supply many organisations in Nigeria with this same information.
